JULIANNE OWEN

Matthew Isakowitz Fellow, Class of 2024

University of Florida, Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering

Host Company: SpaceX

Julianne Owen is a fourth-year aerospace engineering student at the University of Florida. She is passionate about advancing human spaceflight and studying the geological features of our planet and other planets to better understand, preserve, and explore them. These interests led her to NASA's Johnson Space Center, where over the course of three NASA internships she gained experience in flight dynamics software development, mission operations, and test operations for environmental control/life support systems and active thermal control systems for both astronauts and spacecraft. She also interned with HawkEye 360, a D.C.-based satellite company, where she gained valuable insight into the world of geoanalytics. Her experiences with mentors and coworkers at these companies shaped her interests in control systems, robotics, planetary science, and thermal systems. She is very excited to work on life support systems for SpaceX’s Dragon vehicle during the summer of 2024.

At the University of Florida, Julianne is a member of UF's Active Perception and Robotics Intelligence Lab, where her work supports the development of object mapping and path-planning techniques for autonomous underwater vehicles. She plans on combining her research and industry interests in graduate school, where she aims to develop technology that will aid in the advancement of both space exploration and the preservation of our planet. In her free time, Julianne enjoys volleyball, climbing, spending time with friends and family, hiking, and documenting the rocks and bugs she encounters on her adventures.
