JAMES SHIN

Matthew Isakowitz Fellow, Class of 2024

Georgia Institute of Technology, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Minor in Computing & Intelligence

Host Company: SpaceX

James Shin is an electrical engineering student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He believes that space provides a valuable perspective, and potential solutions, to many of humanity’s largest issues. So, he aims to develop novel, resilient electronics that can help expand our capabilities to explore and inhabit space. In pursuit of this, James conducts research at the Space Systems Design Lab where he designs electronics for CubeSats that demonstrate and test innovative satellite technology and the Silicon-Germanium Devices Lab where he specializes in the development and testing of devices that perform well under extreme radiation exposure. Additionally, he was previously involved in the Yellow Jacket Space Program working towards launching a liquid-fueled rocket past the Karman Line as a responsible engineer on the avionics team. Following his love for space technology and electronics, he previously interned with Blue Origin and, as a Matthew Isakowitz Fellow, will be interning with SpaceX’s Starlink team this upcoming summer. In his free time, you’ll find James pursuing his next adventure whether that be rock climbing, backpacking, running a marathon, or simply trying something new.
