Georgia Institute of Technology, Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering

Host Company: Sierra Space

Grace Krahn is a first-year master’s student in Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech. Her work as a graduate research assistant at the Space Systems Design Laboratory focuses on the development of CubeSats to integrate, test, and demonstrate cutting-edge formation flying technologies. Grace graduated with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech, where she was heavily involved in Georgia Tech Experimental Rocketry as the parachute deployment project head and later avionics integration lead for the team’s 200-pound solid propellant rocket. She also was a mechanical designer, CAD instructor, and manufacturer on the BattleBots team.

Grace’s professional experience began with two internships with SkunkWorks at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. Most recently, she worked for Blue Canyon Technologies, a commercial small satellite designer and manufacturer in Boulder, CO. Her background and skills range from conceptual design to systems integration & test. Grace’s passion for aerospace first took off when she received her pilot’s license in high school. For her career in sustainable aerospace vehicle and mission design, she hopes to make space travel more accessible to both researchers and the general public. Outside of work and school, Grace spends her time hiking, drawing, and undertaking crafty projects in the Georgia Tech makerspaces, including a custom wooden Settlers of Catan set.
