SWATI RAVI

Matthew Isakowitz Fellow, Class of 2023

University College Dublin, Ireland, Master of Science in Space Science and Technology
Columbia University, Bachelor of Arts in Astrophysics, Concentration in Mathematics

Host Company: Sierra Space

Swati Ravi is currently a Mitchell Scholar and a master’s student in Space Science & Technology at the Department of Physics of University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland. Her current interests are orbital research, payload development, and space-based astronomy. Prior to attending UCD, Swati received a bachelor’s degree in Astrophysics and Mathematics from Columbia University. She is experienced in data modeling and interdisciplinary research in the fields of astrophysics, chemistry, and biology, and mechanical engineering, having most recently launched a payload experiment to the International Space Station titled Characterizing Antibiotic Resistance in Microgravity Environment (CARMEn) as part of the SpaceX CRS-24 mission. Swati currently works on orbital gamma-ray astronomy at UCD with a focus on gamma-ray instrumentation for CubeSat integration. Swati has led teams of sizes up to 20 focused on tackling the most challenging engineering and scientific problems that included designing, building and testing solutions subject to the strictest space worthiness requirements from NASA. She hopes to eventually work in a leadership role in the development of commercial space platforms for future orbital science and engineering research. In her free time, she enjoys reading, painting, plants, and K-12 STEM education for underrepresented minorities. Swati will be a Destinations Safety and Mission Assurance Intern at Sierra Space, Broomfield, CO.
