Shan Selvamurugan is a first-year aerospace graduate student at Georgia Tech. As a research assistant at the Space Systems Design Laboratory, his research focuses on leveraging the state-of-the-art in propulsion and GNC to advance the capabilities of small satellites for formation flying missions. Shan completed his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech as well, where he split his time between developing carbon-nanotube field emitter cathodes at the High-Power Electric Propulsion Laboratory and building high-power multi-staged rockets as a member of the Georgia Tech Experimental Rocketry organization.

His experience spans the commercial space industry, working as an intern at companies including The Aerospace Corporation, Blue Origin, and Firefly Aerospace. Shan is excited about the future of space exploration and aspires to make his mark on the space industry by enabling reliable, routine, and cost-effective access to space for all. In his spare time, Shan enjoys cooking, snowboarding, and playing a wide assortment of sports — from basketball to tennis and more recently, beach volleyball.
