Maggie Lea is a mechanical engineering undergraduate with an aerospace emphasis and entrepreneurship minor at Utah State University. She has enjoyed working at the university in a variety of ways, from teaching fellow to research assistant. Maggie is currently conducting independent research through the Engineering Undergraduate Research Program. She is studying methods for the improvement of high magnification strain measurements in solids through the use of UV-C lighting. Maggie also works with with USU’s Mars rover club and Tau Beta Pi chapter.

Maggie spent last summer in Durango, Colorado doing design and analysis at Agile Space Industries on their advanced hypergolic thrusters. After graduating, she will pursue a master’s and PhD in aerospace engineering. 

Maggie is a co-founder of the Make A Difference (MAD) Band. The MAD Band performs free concerts around the state of Utah and takes donations for charitable causes. She has helped raise $25,000 for Volunteers of America’s Youth Resource Center, which provides necessary aid for homeless young adults in the Salt Lake area. 

Maggie is fascinated by the commercial spaceflight industry and is passionate about how the future of spaceflight will require the interdisciplinary efforts of various fields of study. In her free time, she enjoys playing bass guitar, hiking, and talking about her bearded dragon, Norbert.
